Dr. Temple the head Surgical Oncologist and Team leader of the HIPEC program at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary, Alberta will remove the tumour from Zach's abdomen and use the hot chemo bath (HIPEC) to clean out all the remaining cancer cells within Zach. Zach will be admitted to the Foot Hills Hospital on February the 11th and be there for two to three weeks recovering and ensuring he is safe and able to return to our home in Prince Albert.
Dr. Temple also updated us all with the news that he had kept in touch with Dr. Mpofu, Saskatoon Cancer Center Head of Pediatric Oncology, and member of the Childrens Oncology Group, as well as a complete consult with Dr. Hayes-Jordan of MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston Texas. Dr. Hayes-Jordan is a world leader in HIPEC therapy for children, and advised Dr. Temple that he had the team to do exactly what she would have done in Texas, and that there was not a need for Zach and his family to travel to the United States. In fact Dr. Temple has done over 400 HIPEC procedures and and very confident that this surgery will have a chance of a 98% success rate. We have said that we are not about the stats, percentages and averages since Zach was diagnosed June 19th, but this is statistic we will embrace for sure! Also more good news for our Zach, after completion of round 12 of his chemo this Friday, he will NOT have anymore chemo in this P6 Protocol, and possibly NO radiation required if all goes well. We will try not to get ahead of ourselves though, even with the very promising news today. There is so much more to say, but for now, this will be our update, once we are in Calgary no doubt I will have much more to add to Zach's website and Facebook friends and family.
I believe that when a family is facing such a horrible disease we will reach to everyone and anyone who will listen and provide support, love and caring words to help us through our worst possible thoughts. Yes we have done just that, and our family, our incredibly kind friends, new and old, have continued to lift us from our fears, the nightmares, the feeling of complete hopelessness. Thank you and Grateful are not strong enough words to express how we feel about you all.
Our faith has been tested, mostly mine, but we know God has never left our side, he was there when I explained to Zach he had a very rare Cancer, he was been with Zach always keeping him strong and hopeful. Our prayers have been heard in the morning, and in the middle of the night, every possible positive request put to him has been answered. He will continue to get us all to this next very important part of the road to Zach's CURE,,,,,Surgery; and the removal of the tumour within Zach! As I have said there is still quite a ways to go, but believe me when I say the completion of the P6 regiment over the last almost 7 months is a real victory. Praise be to God! and may he bless you all everyday. We have always known that many special people surround us, and you all have confirmed that we are here for each other, especially when most needed, take good care, and be safe always
